The university overture of a visually impaired freshman
Wang Taifan, who took part in the performance of the Paralympic Anthem at the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, recently began his college life as a musicology freshman at the Special Education College of Beijing Union University.
Born in Tongliang District of southwest China's Chongqing, Wang lost his sight at the age of 12 due to an eye disease. After being enrolled in the Chongqing Special Education Center, he learned to play the trumpet with the help of his teachers and joined a wind ensemble composed of vision limited individuals. The trumpet enabled Wang to experience a wider world as he traveled to many cities and stepped onto bigger stages with his bandmates. As a new chapter of his life begins, Wang looks forward to a solo concert of his own.
