'Colorful dream' sees mother open for mentally challenged daughter

Disabled Persons' Federation in Qingyang District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, hosts a free art studio called "Colorful Dream" for mentally challenged patients.

Established in 2013, it has helped more than 100 patients with rehabilitation through painting and conveying their inner feelings with a brush.

Xu Yujiang, "Mother Xu" to students, founded the studio for her daughter and other patients. Xie Xinxin, her daughter, has been mentally handicapped since childhood. Although it is difficult for her to handle a brush, she loves painting.

She likes painting landscapes and people the most and hopes to open an exhibition so that more people could see her paintings.

She has created thousands of works bold in color and imagination. Her works have been highly praised by many experts.

For students here, the studio is not only a place for painting but also meeting new friends and extend more of themselves. For Xu, she is determined to help them as long as she can.
